How to Tap Into Your Intuition and Inspire Creativity Through Your Yoga Practice

If you unrolled your yoga mat in my class, my intention would always be the same: to connect you back to you, where you’ll find all the intuition you’ll need to achieve your highest potential and live radiantly happy, healthy and creatively fulfilled.

This post is dedicated to helping you tap into your intuition and inspire creativity from the inside out.

Your intuition is your inner compass.

Your intuition is a built-in sat-nav system that guides you back home. It’s a feeling of inner knowing that helps you cultivate and navigate your life with more intention.

If this sounds a little woo-woo to you, let’s plant our feet firmly in the real world…

You’ve probably heard the saying ‘follow your gut’ and maybe even that the gut is our body’s ‘second brain’. I’m sure you’ve felt those familiar ‘butterflies’ in your stomach.

And this is where spirit meets science! Dr Gershon, author and professor at Columbia University confirms that the Enteric Nervous System (ENS) - a web of nerve cells embedded in the gastrointestinal tract -  ‘is now recognised as as a complex, integrative brain in its own right’

I’m a big fan of trusting my gut and it’s never steered me wrong. In fact, things get super imbalanced when I choose to ignore it.

If you’re feeling disconnected from your intuition, it takes daily practice to train it - just like a muscle. I share my favourite practices below…

But when you tap into it, you’ll realise that everything you need to live an inspirational life, is already inside you.

Creative inspiration flows within you.

Tapping into our inner wisdom allows us to relax into our truth and create from that place.  Creativity is an inside job.

There’s a quote I love from Carl Jung, which says: “Who looks outside, hopes; who looks inside, awakes.”

When we look outside of ourselves for inspiration, our intuition gets buried with feelings of stress, self-doubt, anxiety and tension. Hope creates fear and doesn’t last.

It’s true, we might find sources of inspiration out in the world, but even then, we’re always guided back to how we feel inside.

Try this… Close your eyes and soften into the flow of your breath. Take slow, deep inhales and exhales. Begin to conjure up an image in your mind of something so beautiful that you saw out in nature. Embody the feelings that are coming up for you by breathing into them. After a few more breaths, open your eyes and notice how you feel.

The embodied feeling that’s lingering? We create from that place inside.

This is sustainable and sets no limits or boundaries for our creativity.

Because when we’re inspired, we can accomplish anything.

Your yoga practice connects you to your intuition, creativity and life’s flow.

The meaning of yoga is connection. And through our yoga practice we can inspire ourselves by practising poses, pranayama and meditation to align our energy with our inner bodies.

Our daily practice can help us connect inwards and strengthen the muscle of our own intuition. Here are 3 of my favourite ways to do this:

1. Yoga + the Sacral Chakra

One of the best ways to inspire creativity through your yoga practice is by flowing through asanas that balance the Sacral (Svadhisthana) Chakra.

This is the energetic centre of your body linked to creativity, emotional balance, joy and sensuality. It’s located near your sacrum and hips, just below your belly-button and is the seat of your reproductive organs.

When the sacral chakra is balanced, it clears the way for creative energy to flow freely.

Try poses like Virasana (to ground), Baddha Konasana, Goddess and Frog (to cultivate spaciousness in your hips).

Don’t be shy of adding some fun poses like Handstand or Wheel to awaken your inner child. Imagine you were playing in the park (with no bills or mortgage!) Moving in this way lets our imagination run wild and inspires never-ending curiosity and wonder. This gets our creative juices flowing!

2. Meditation + JOURNALLING

Eckhart Tolle says that “All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.”

Sitting still in meditation helps us to slow down, quieten the brain and create space. It’s in these moments of stillness that our intuition speaks to us.

Try free-writing in your journal immediately afterwards. How can you change your life to be more inspired?

3. Essential Oils

My top 3 oils to inspire Creativity are doTERRA’s Citrus Bliss, Tangerine and Clary Sage.

You can diffuse them, apply them on your pulse points, over your heart or even on top of your sacral chakra (right underneath your belly button).

  • Citrus Bliss is the Oil of Creativity and inspires creative expression.

  • Tangerine is the Oil of Cheer + Creativity which invites us to make room for our creative side by having more fun with joy and spontaneity.

  • Clary Sage is the Oil of Clarity + Vision and assists in opening our creative channels and clearing creative blocks. 

So, there’s a lot to be said for stillness, surrender and connecting in to your centre through your yoga practice.

Tapping into your intuition will help you find more clarity, get creative and navigate your dream life with intention.
